Meh
They made APAR-II for new Electronic Counter Measure's.
But the system was proven to be unusefull for a longer term, because of the high power it needs, it destructs itself.
So they created the SABRE for the LCF's, and they thought they fixed all the issue's, and created a better platform.
But they created a worse system, it destructs itself at start-up, and has to be fixed every single minut.
APAR-II on the other hand, every 5 minuts hehe
Maby my stuff is showing it worse then it is, but thats how i see it.
For the TDS.
It is a platform until the height of the persons eyes. Googles on it.
And two hand bars, one with a switch wich activates the connected stir to the target.
I dont know if you know the M-frigates or LCF's. I dont think you do.
But try to search at the bridge to a standart, with googles.
Its the TDS.

it's not on your karel doorman drawing then......
and APAR-II... never heard of it. any data on that?
and of course I don't know the LCF and the doorman more then with pictures. it has been 8 years since I was on board one. and even then I didn't came everywhere. you expect me to know all?

(and you are going way offtopic out there about the ECM.... I only know that those 'mushrooms' do at least a part of that role, and they are fitted.)

it would make this ship an destroyer, only armed with CIWS, 1 gun and a point defence missile system..... I added those to make it really an 'modern times gun cruiser'.
Cost, maintenance and magazine space. In order to carry a meaningful amount of ammunition for all those guns you'll need a staggeringly large set of magazines.
That frigate I posted earlier in the never builds section has more than a third of the lower deck dedicated to magazines.

true. but if I look to some italian destroyers, like
http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... Audace.png
or http://www.shipbucket.com/images.php?di ... 202008.png
I see the same amount of guns on a much smaller hull. I agree, I also have 3 Dardo's on board, but those have only small deck penetration compared with the other guns, which already need less space then older guns. the fact that I have grouped the guns in 2 blocks, makes it also possible to make the reload magazine space limited.

@ mitch :D ok, I thought I was going mad or something ;) and now I understand why only some of the LCF's have the APECS :D

I'm talking about ready ammunition (The stuff immediately underneath the gun), but the "deep" magazines for lack of better word.
And you have ten guns to keep supplied. True, the rounds for the Dardo doesn't take up as much as a 127mm round, but you'll be carrying significantly higher amounts of them.
Also, you'll notice that none of the Italian ships have more than two types of guns.

As i so far know, more then 2 types of guns, also require more Weapon Technisians, and is more expensive.
Plus DARDO takes up a lot of ammo, in 49 sec it fired 320 shells onboard an argentine ship. Without full fire mode.
Then the 76mm, it takes A hell load of space. And the 127mm, even more!!!
You need multiple elevators to get the ammunition downstairs, and more ammunition stores.

But it is able to be done this set-up. But its what you want, and if you feel ok with it.
If it was my navy, i said no. Rather put some small guns wich can store their ammo in the superstructure, then 6 ammunition stores.

hmm I think I will keep this arrangement. the only thing I could really do, is removing the 127....
but, as with all 'early' utopian ships, they are still experimenting, and they are not perfect.

btw, anybody knows if I could direct more then one gun with one stir if it's aimed at one target, and if I could direct the dardo's with the STIR, or do I need it's own director for that?

and an update with fixes to most of the above.
[ img ]
still to be done:
detailing on hull, lights, fixes on underwater hull, railing, detailing in general, antenna's..... and I suppose I have forgotten a few points as well

There's no limit on how many guns any given director can direct, so long as they're all shooting at the same target.
