well nothing also forbids for desing AU ships that have flaws akin to real life ships. Not everything needs to be perfect and the proplems of topweigth and stability are usually "accepted" flawns when budget or other factors demand them to be sacrificed in face of some other qualities.

from a cursory look she does not appear any more 'top heavy' than some of postwar FRG navy designs - particulary the Hamburgs. I know they may have been considered a bit abundant up top, but they seemed to cope outside the Baltic. That aside, another very interesting design on what has to be one of the better AU's on the Forum.

The refitted U-Jager-class has changed its torpedoes for new asw-weapon, the Geier 3. The Geier torpedo was a real successor to the better known Zaunkoenig torpedo, a threatening acoustic guided torpedo. The Geier was fitted with active sonar. :o
I created a smaller version, just for hunting down subs. The torpedo is fitted with starting rocket and stored in a 6x launcher. After designing the system I realised, I had simply recreated an ASROC-system. :lol:
However, the U-Jager of 1948 with Geier3, 5,5cm-twin and 3cm-quad.

The Kiel class LSTs saw a second batch with a changed main mission. The first Kiel-LSTs were simply tank transport with additional fire support. The updated design features a command ship for combined marines commando. The ship wears a 15,2cm-twin lightweight turret for fire support incl. radar and optical fire directors. The heavy aa is radar-controlled, the 3cm-quads are directed by the good old optical directors. A flightdeck is added at the aft, supporting one Weserflug-VTOL but no further shelter. Two LSIs are stored midships, handled by crane. 20 tanks and 40 light vehicles are stored in the belly. They can leave the ship via large bow- and stern-doors. Midships are another two ramps on each side. Small boats can be launched here. The main mission is to enter a harbor, take it and hold it until reinforcements have arrived.

That's true, but these tend to be corrected in subsequent ships. It wouldn't be all that realistic for the Germans to keep designing ships with sorry freeboard especially as they embark more and more blue-water missions. You know what they say about insanity and keep doing the same thing over and over.

Based on the large LSTs a LPH was designed, the Keiler-class. The Keiler delivers a complete batalion with an airwing of 20 Weserflug tiltrotor-VTOLs and 8 LCVPs. For selfdefense, the usual aa-gun-shield and directors/radar are installed.
Very new is the use of the Heinkel Seelerche ringwing-fighter. The Seelerche starts and lands on its tail. The fighter is stored on deck, secured by hooks.
Many thanks to Scharrenberg for the idea of using that strange aircraft and for sending usable docu about it!

The idea of the Keiler-class is based on the US Iwo Jima-class LPHs.
