FYI that's a Lee-Enfield from 1970s Rhodesia, where camouflaging rifles was commonplace.

You don't specifically need a rod. You could get away with a wire cleaning device stored in the butt stock along with an oil bottle and other small items as we did for many years.

It now comes with a garand-style compartment in the butt for your cleaning kit.
