Im Schatten des Adlers, an Alternate History Timeline in FD Scale

In the late 1990s, as budget cuts slowly reduced the number of Slovetinian F-16s that would receive the Mid Life Upgrade, it became clear that a not insignificant number of ex-RSAF F-16s might be on the market in the very near future. This naturally led to a slew of requests from foreign governments for sales, all of which were turned down due to a variety of reasons. As the 1990s became the 2000s, the aircraft which by this point had already begun to be retired were still without a solid potential customer.

Proposals were thrown around throughout the early aughts for private companies to purchase these aircraft for use as aggressors, but the majority of the companies making purchase requests were found to lack the necessary financial and technical backing to support such a fleet. Skyward Aviation Solutions, founded by a group of ex-Royal Slovetinian Air Force pilots in 2009, was by far the closest company to successfully purchasing the F-16s. Discussions between the Slovetinian Ministry of Defense and Skyward continued into 2012, but ultimately the Slovetinian Parliament rejected the deal on grounds of national security, citing the enormous risk posed by a private contractor operating military jets. Skyward folded soon after, failing to find any alternative sources of aircraft and lacking financial backing to remain in the hunt as their original investors pulled out.
