Much of this AU scenario is based upon the idea of "what if the Canadian Forces were funded at a level that would allow them to reach the agreed-upon 2% of GDP spending commitment?" That would give the Canadian Forces an annual budget of US$44.4 billion, a nearly 70% increase over the present budget of US$26.4 billion annually. As a point of comparison, the Australian Defence Force spent US$34.7 billion in their 2021-22 budget, reflecting 2% of their GDP. How would the Canadian Forces look under this scenario? Probably a lot more like the ADF - with a full suite of capabilities, such as airborne early warning, amphibious power projection, precision artillery systems including rocket artillery and self-propelled systems, and a credible air defence capability including ballistic missile defence (BMD).

In this scenario, the RCAF orders the C-27J Spartan (Canadian designation CC-227J) in a sole-source contract to replace their aging CC-115 Buffalo aircraft, which had been retained in a STOL/light transport role in addition to being tasked with search and rescue. The first aircraft arrives in 2015, being assigned to a reconstituted No. 411 Squadron. The role of No. 411 Squadron includes tactical airlift, providing airdrop capability for paratroops, as well as humanitarian and disaster relief.

Concurrently to the CC-227J entering service in the transport role, the RCAF is also launching their Fixed-Wing Search and Rescue (FWSAR) program to replace their CC-115 Buffalo and CC-130H Hercules aircraft which have been operating in the search and rescue role for several decades. Owing to fleet commonality as well as the larger, more spacious cabin and longer range, the C-27J beats out the C-295, its main competitor. The RCAF partners with Alenia, now Leonardo, to become the launch partner for the new C-27J Next Generation, outfitted with winglets for increased maximum takeoff weight (MTOW), as well as an in-flight refueling probe which allows for extended mission endurance - a key capability for providing search and rescue coverage to Canada's far north.

In the early 2000s, the Royal Canadian Air Force is searching for a replacement for its F-111C strike aircraft and small fleet of EF-111A Raven electronic warfare aircraft. Canada is a major partner in the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program, which will evolve into the F-35 Lightning II, however, there are concerns about the timeline of the JSF project. The Canadian government has concerns that delays to the JSF project will cause the F-111C fleet, operating in the strategic deterrent role under the NATO nuclear sharing program, to reach airframe fatigue limits before a viable replacement is available.

Cooperating closely with the Australian government, the Canadian government determines that the most prudent course of action would be to acquire an interim strike fighter to mitigate any potential gap in deterrent capability. In 2007, the Canadian government signs an agreement to acquire 42 F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft, sufficient to operate two squadrons of 18 aircraft, plus an additional six to equip an operational training squadron. In 2009, the Canadian government announces that 12 of the 42 Super Hornets on order would be wired on the production line for future fit-out as EA-18Gs, to replace the EF-111A fleet once the F-35 is available to supplement the Super Hornets.

In 2013, the Canadian government announces that it will buy 15 new-build Growlers to supplement the existing Super Hornet fleet, rather than waiting to convert existing aircraft. Canada takes delivery of the first of 15 Growlers in 2015, with the aircraft replacing the EF-111A Ravens operated by No. 428 Electronic Attack Squadron, known as the "Ghosts". The Growlers were quickly put into operational service, deploying to Kuwait in 2017 to support Canada's contribution to the coalition against ISIL, known as Operation Impact. Like the Australian variant, Canadian Growlers are capable of fielding the AIM-9X air-to-air missile, granting an additional self-defence capability.

I do have an all-new KC-390 drawing in the works that I need to finish! The one on the archive presently is out of scale, unfortunately. Could definitely be a possibility once that's done.
