Adenandy I’m curious as to why you write so strangely?

Tanque Barbastro

[ img ]

The "Tanque Barbastro" is an unofficial name for a handcrafted light tank built by local initiative in republican band in the Spanish Civil War. Only two photos exist, one of poorly quality. This type of vehicle was know as "Tiznaos" (referring to their appearance, in English Tiznar meaning "to smudge") but the Barbastro looked better than most, which were only armored trucks.

Was designed by the “Grupo de Construction Tanques Barbastro” (Tank Construction Group of Barbastro) in the town of Barbastro (Aragon, northwest of Spain, my natal town). Was built in the workshop of Constancio Rámiz, whom I met in my childhood. The prototype was sent to the headquarters for inspection, and a series of three units was ordered. According to the existing reports, only one was finished and fought in Sariñena (Aragon) in 1938, but they are probably wrong, since the two existing photos, one taken in Barbastro and the other in Sariñena, corresponding to the prototype. I was badly armed (a french Hotchkiss machine-gun), poorly armored (leaf springs welded) and with little mobility (had the engine of a truck and tracks and transmission of agricultural tractor.

The text of link have many mistakes. The first photo is taken in Barbastro, near of my old house. The second photo is taken in a factory on Sariñena, and is the same tank. The prototype was medium gray but the series tanks would have been painted in khaki (color of spanish army).

Excellent! This is the first drawing ever seen (at least by me) of the elusive "Barbastro"!
