From the 'E' being backwards, it would suggest someone has 'flipped' the original.

Nobody flipped the photo. On the pump on the original you can see that the Hebrew letters are in correct orientation. The 'E' is not flipped or otherwise. It is probably just a tactical symbol, in fact it is '3'.
