While it lacks a lot of internal details on the subsystems, it is from the engineering manual for the ship in question, and therefor isn't dramatically simplified. Do keep in mind this isn't a schematic, but a flow diagram, and therefore shows how the steam/water flows from one system to another.

The Massachusetts Maritime Academy has the entire engineering manual up online for the ship in question (T.S. Patriot State) here. I find it an interesting read.

Edit: very simplified diagrams like this were used on some of the tests I took in my second thermodynamics class. I am sure that Golly, RP1, and Erik all have seen similar things on tests.

Oh, ok, thanks. Gosh, I'm so glad I chose so to study easy and uncomplicated thing like history.

I originally wanted to study engineering, then a very wealthy guy reminded me that engineers work for businessmen, so I got a business degree.

Funny how similar the steampropulsion plant in ships is to Power plants in ground. Our plant has one 60MW steam boiler and 45MW turbine and 80MW Gasturbine/Wasteheat boiler. All these provide industrial steam for two factories and district heating to the town where we are (the district heating network is under my command).

(Or so claims meta-academic epidemiology).

By dubbing econ "Dismal Science" adherents exaggerate;
The "Dismal"'s fine - It's "Science" where the patently prevaricate.
In terms of choices, I'd say only Sophie's was comparable.

.... in business, which IMO seems so puny compared to..... well, making actual ships float and all, what I am learning to do for an living. having been the one who put an repaired ship back in the water on my internship...... I don't think you should look down on the 'learning' guys here
