seeing that some people have added top-view... I have also added an simple top-view of my Battleship, at the moment, only for Batch 1 variant, light AA-armament drawing!

It is missing some details here and there and need some color adjustment some places, to be good enough.

You find it on page 6 ;)

sorry

Excellent work, heuhen!

I really like your "simple" (as in very detailed ;) ) top-view. The shading in particular is so well done, it almost feels like cheating... (sorry :D )

You seem to be missing some info on the armor-thickness, though. I'd be interested to see some numbers.

she have a very complex armor layout, where the armor-belt is thickest over the most vital areas, thinner armor over other area between this vital areas, box over vital areas, for example only have of the engine room are fully protected over most vital areas, other areas have basic protection or what is belived the most common way for an shell to come trough.

I have to play around with SS to get an idea, but I expect those numbers to be around:
Belts up to 13 in and 4-8in in other areas with water and sand/gravel behind, some areas might also have concrete.'
Barbette from 10 in to 17 in
Turrets from 8 in to 19 in
conning tower from 13 in to 17 in
decks:
main from 0.5 in to 2.0 in
second up to max 6.0 in
splinter 0.4 in to 0.7 in over machinery , up to 1.5 in over magazines
box: from 1 in to 5 in

Additional there is also a use of en experimental form of pressurized rooms, in hope it reduce the speed of possible flooding. additional the magazine have been tried designed in such way that if en explosion occurs in the magazine, the explosion should be lead out trough the hull at water level at designed weak points and flooding trough that weak point, in hope that the ship can survive... in theory, idea was never test out at full scale.... luckily.

as soon I have something I'll update

Good afternoon, gentlemen!

I had finished! Here is my candidate for the fast battleship challenge!
[ img ]
The specs are the following ones:

Laid down: 1927, Launched: 1930, Completed: 1933.

Displacement:
28,500 t light; 32,000 t standard; 34,500 t full war load

Dimensions: Length (overall) x beam x draught (normal/deep)
197.10 m x 32 m x (8 / 8.4 m)

Armament:
2 x 4 x 356 mm (two quad turrets) / 45 cal wire wound, BL guns in quad turrets on barbette mounts, with 32 deg elevation / 720 kg AP shells, 220 rounds per gun.
4 x 2 x 152 mm (four twin turrets) / 50 cal wire wound, BL guns in twin turrets, 45 deg elevation / 45 kg AP shells, 300 rounds per gun.
7 x 2 x 102 mm (seven twin mounts) / 45 cal LA/HA QF autofretted monobloc barrel, -10 to + 85 deg dual purpose guns, 15 kg HA shell, 450 rounds per gun
8 x 2 x 40 mm L60 Bofors AA Model 1928 HA gun.
1 stern catapult for up to 3 recce aircraft.

Armour:
Belts (max): 350 mm, main belt inclined 23 degrees, external.
Main Torpedo Bulkhead: 100 mm
Turret Face (max): 350 mm
Barbette (max): 305 mm
Main Deck: 140 mm
Upper Deck: 50 mm
Conning towers (max): 250 mm

Machinery:
Oil fired water tube boilers, steam geared turbines, 4 shafts, 100,000 shp = 28 kts
Range 7,000nm at 15.00 kts

Steady gun plataform.
Good seakeaping, but somewhat wet forward.

Complement:
1,450

Excellent machinery, storage, compartmentation spaces, good accommodation.

Credits: Thanks to Hood, Bombhead, Colosseum (I mimic the very difficult "joint line" between the lower edge of the belt and the antitorpedo protection from your Washington BB), Enrr and BB1987. Special thanks to the "board of experts": Your comments were the guidelines to this design (since the inception) of this drawing. The final drawing is very different to the vessels that I use to draw (probably a KGV with triple 14 inch monobloc guns), but sometimes going out from our comfort zone is very interesting :D . Cheers!

For my entry, I give you the never-built first step on Nyrdanmark's quest for an escalation clause battleship.

[ img ]

Displacement: 50,300 t

Length: 880 ft WL, 892.6 ft OA

Beam: 105 ft, 115 ft bulges

Draft: 29 ft

Protection: 12" armor belt with 15 degrees inclination, 5" uppers and ends, 4" deck, 4" torpedo bulkhead, 15" turret face armor, 12" barbettes, 18.11" forward conning tower, 16" aft conning tower

Armament: 8x356mm, 16x127mm, 16x88mm

Propulsion: 235,985 shp electric drive, design speed of 33 knots

Range: 5,300 nm at 18 kts

Of note is her apparent lack of light AA, which is a side effect of the design never leaving the preliminary stages.

Consider this my first real post on the forum (my last one was a long time ago and definitely not up to standard).
[ img ]

I hope I'm in time for this... I only just came back to drawing recently and I haven't been on the forum too much lately. This is Albert Welkin, a Battlecruiser of the Diotan Commonwealth completed as of 1920 (1935 for our purposes). She's going to be used in an upcoming AU I have planned, but I don't want to have any less than 10 drawings and a full writeup for every ship I have done before I actually post that. In the meantime, I noticed my latest drawing seems to fulfill the requirements for this contest so I might as well throw my hat in the ring.

Stats are below!

She weighs 27,512 tons, a relative lightweight among a lot of the other designs, and measures in at a length of 217 meters, a draft of 8 meters at normal displacement, and a beam of 28.3 meters. Her armor is relatively poor, as is to be expected from a battlecruiser, with only 135 mm of main belt armor, 13 mm of end armor, and an upper belt of 72 mm. Her torpedo bulkheads measure 22 mm, and her armor deck is 120 mm over the main deck, and 79 over the quarterdeck, with an unarmored forecastle. Her conning tower measures 400 mm, as is standard for Diotan heavy vessels. Her main battery consists of 4x2 355 mm Lirovia main guns, and she carries a secondary armament of 8x2 125 mm dual purpose guns. Her light AA is lacking, as this is her as commissioned in 1920, but she still carries a battery of 40 20 mm guns in 10 mounts. Her speed, however, is more than adequate, able to reach 30 knots as designed. Additionally, she carries 2 JM-11 FH-1 floatplanes, with one on the catapult and one disassembled.

She would be given an expanded AA suite upon her refit on the outbreak of war in 1921 (not pictured).

Also, the cranes, catapult, and small boats aren't mine, but I got them from a part sheet so I'm not sure if I should credit them.

ABetterName: Very nice! I like the turret arrangement aft...reminds me of the IJN's Kongos.

Aiseus: Very nice work, also! I like the strong, muscular-looking superstructure...makes the ship look like she'd be a bruiser in combat!

Beautiful and colossal. It seems like it would be a hard sell to put 3x3 16" on fully 60,000 tons, although she would end up being an excellent AA escort.

One wonders what the turning radius would be with the primary rudder disabled
