And again after a long absence from drawing ships here some more American ships.
The SS Hawaiian Shipper was built for the Matson Line as part of a fleet renewal program, along with three other sisters. Two were built bu Federal at Kearny NJ, and two were built by Newport News shipyard. Only the Hawaiian Shipper was completed before the entry of the US into the war, the other three completed for naval service. One was completed as a submarine tender Euryale(AS-22)and the two completed by Newport News as transports. None ever returned to commercial service, but for the Hawaiian Shipper. In 1941 was transfered to Great Britain as Empire Fulmar, and back to the US flag as Hawaiian Shipper.



After the war she was purchased from the Maritime Administration by the newly formed Pacific Transport Lines and put into service as America Transport



In 1958 the ship was sold to the States Steamship Company and named Washington, and two years later renamed Michigan (to free Washington to a new Mariner type merchant ship)



In 1969 she was sold to a Panamanian interests and named Morning Light and finally scrapped in 1973.

During WW1 the United States was building a large number of merchant ships. Many new shipyards were opened, between them the Los Angeles Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company in 1917. The yard was contracted to build 10 type 1133 design ships, 5 of which were canceled, and 5 were completed post war.
SS Greylock was operated by the Seas Shipping (robin Line) and was sunk during WW2


The SS Golden Dragon was operated by the Oceanic & Oriental Navigation company, which was a joint concerns of the Matson Oceanic Lines and American Hawaiian. The joint venture was set up in 1927 and was dissolved in 1938, the ships divided between the two companies


The Golden Dragon herself went to Matson Navigation as Mahimahi


The former Golden Hind was transfered to American Hawaiian Lines, as Honolulan and as such was sunk in 1942
