Hmmm... trying to do it with a more-or-less normal boom (merely adapted to completely opposite direction of flow) would probably sooner or later end in a rather spectacular crash as the tip of boom, being improperly shaped for moving through water would cause a lot of hydrodynamic drag (probably the moment of insertion into water would be most dangerous)
But if the tip of a boom (perhaps significantly extended in length) were to be equipped with a float properly shaped for very high speeds (on water), then perhaps it could work (although I'm not sure if if the water tanks would be filled quickly enough to make it practical at all).

Well, maybe such a boom could work, but it would definitly be not practical. Let's just assume she could carry just half the amount of water as Evergreen's 747 Supertanker, which would be about 35.000 litres or 9.200 gallons, you would need a loooong stretch of calm water to fill her up. Landing on an airfield and refilling her tanks by hose would be much safer, and less expensive.

When I discovered Bispro’s Tilt-Rotor Mohawk in Deviantart I knew I would shipbucket this plane one day. I put that project on hold, and when I finally started to work on it I found myself beaten by Kilomuse, not only in time but also in quality. With the help of Ashburtons Bell XV-15 the OV-1T Mohawk finally came true. I admit, Bispro’s engine nacelles are slicker and more elegant then the relatively plump ones I used, but I think they’re closer to a possible reality.

Finally a sub-branch of the CFS, the Flying Doctor Service. In a Nation consisting of many little Islands maybe the Doctor comes in a floatplane...
