Not quite, he was very interested in ships, and was particularly proud of his 'Kriegsmarine', such as the Bismarck and Scharnhorst. He was rarely abourd ships as I understood, because he apparently got seasick very fast...

Just like Stalin had a stiffy for airplanes but he'd never be caught dead in one (particularly since his favorite method of assasination was to sabotage their aircraft).

I understand there was some movement in the 50s to preserve the ship, possibly even in Britain and France as a memorial to Hitler's atrocities, but in the end there was just little interest, though one of her boats remains as a private boat to this day.

I inherited the helm wheel from the Aviso Grille after it was given to my parents as a wedding present by my father's cousin. He had worked on the docks in Deliware where the grille was dismantled in 1951. My parents honeymooned there and they brought the wheel back to Canada and had it made into a coffee table. We grew up with it all our lives but jut found out its origins 3 years ago from my mother.

I wonder what sort of schemes Hitler's planning this time?

Then again, he's probably too seasick to plan anything...

That's one hell of a conversational piece you've got there. How do people react when you tell them that the ships wheel they're looking at was on Hitler's yacht?
