After the last reform of Armed Forces, the navy absorb the Coast Guard under his command, with its planes and helicopter, and absorb the medium range patrol aircraft of Corpo della Guardia di Finanza (financial and custom police). Now the 7 aircraft are based on Sigonella Naval Station, the aircraft are modernization at the same standard.

MP42 Surveyor, these aircraft serve as principal SAR platform for medium range mission, border control, fishery patrol and pollution control. The principal mission system is the Leonardo ATOS-M (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance System - Modernized), there are four mission console, Gabbiano surveillance radar, Wescam MX15 flir turret, AIS, two SLAR (Side Looking Airborne Radar) antenna and Elt ESM system, the aircraft also can drop the SAR Kit in rescue operation.

This C-27 Pretorian seem to be very effective for its mission. Also, all drawings of this thread are very good.

The C-130J/KC-130 Super Hercules in service in the air force withdraw by 2022, replaced by the Airbus A400, but four KC-130 will remain in service, upgraded, to support special operations.
The modernization comprise the “special mission baseline upgrade” (with enhanced service life wing, new 60/90 KVA generators, L3 EVS, improved side door and ramp), the addition of two console operator in cockpit, additional chaff and flare dispenser and AN/APN-241 with terrain follow/terrain avoidance mode and news Elbit HUD, Leonardo was responsible for the addition of other system, like the elettro optical turret Wescam MX15, LOAM navigation aid system, complete network suite (Leonardo HF, V/UHF, sat, multiple data link with data fusion capability), and integration of advance custom defensive suite (with MBDA AN/AAR-60 MILDS missile approach warning system, Leonardo RAM01 Laser Warning Receiver, ELT Virgilius DAS controller with RWR/ESM and ECM capability, two ELT DIRCM turret, and MES ECDS Enhanced Countermeasure Dispensing Systems).
The aircraft can carry the C3 Pallet Kit (like the MC-27) to increase the C3 performance, or additional fuel tank for extra air refueling capability.
The KC-130 serve in support of Personnel Recovery and Special Operation mission, in particular in insertion, extraction and re supply of special force and in the air to air refueling of special operation/PR helicopter and aircraft.
Two planes are already in service, two will be delivered in 2018.
