for my personal preference, I would use a different color for ropes then antennas so they differentiate a bit more, same with railings (railings can have same color as the hull, but just darker), normal distance between railing foot, is 7 pixels (from the old days)
reason for the "non standard" car deck windows is because they aren't actually windows per say, they are plastic coverings with a large white border around them for re-enforcement

and also...about the portholes, in this case its because the profiles and material I had to work off actually seems to show they were that large, its quite odd...but I normally do use 3 pixel portholes for the smaller ships (See my "Dogo Maru" from a while back)

Next Ship Sorta Done for now

sadly like the last ship there isn't much in the way of reference material in its later years so Take it partly with a grain of salt (at least the stern)

as built it was originally Tamataka Maru No. 77 of 1980

in 1990 she was Renamed "Shodoshima Maru No.8" (Second to carry that name)

in 1993 she was sold to a "Tianjin Ocean Shipping Co." (also stated as "COSCO Tianjin") and Rebuilt Extensively, the ship was cut in half and lengthened from its 60 Meter LOA originally to 73 Meters!

sadly almost all photos I have of her are exclusively bow angles and very poor quality (Aside a single google earth reference which I used for positioning of everything)

though I do Know that two grey "box type" life rafts were added aside the funnel (which seems to have had the "jet pod" decorations also removed) based on the limited photos and aforementioned satellite shot

this image may be subject to change as based on said photos there may have also been 4 Chinese characters on the side of the hull but that could just be rust and age (its genuinely hard to tell)

Next up is another survivor, and one which is pretty reasonably well known where it currently operates in the Philippines!

as Built in 1982 she would be the last of the "No.71 class" of ships (started with Tamataka Maru No.71 in 1977)

in 1992 she was briefly renamed "Shodoshima Maru No.8" (third generation) and simply repainted
[ img ]

in 1998 she was sold to a Chinese Government Qingdao based ferry operator and rebuilt (and renamed Lu Jiao Du No.9)

in 2010 she was sold as "Reina Hosanna" and Rebuilt by Marina Ferries, entering service in 2011 as depicted

eventually in 2019 she was given another refit, but unlike her sisters she remained relatively unchanged from her China Days

so far all I have left to do is Tamataka Maru No.71 and I will likely then Take a Break from the Shikoku Ferries for a while

Thanks! (It's only gonna get more obscure from here haha, soon enough I am going to be tackling an EVEN MORE OBSCURE set of ships, two Chinese RO-PAX ferries better known for their Indonesian "era" as "KMP Salvino" and "KMP Trimas Laila")

but in the meantime I think I will give a similar ship to the early Tamatakas a try first, the "Blue Line" from 1970

AND THUS...the final ship for now haha

the FIRST of the "standard" design of Tamataka Ferries that is kept even today with the successor to Shikoku Ferries "Olive Line" (at least the stern mounted "jet plane" funnel...)

(if you wonder why I didn't do this one first...I had better reference for the later ships)


Firstly, as built in 1977 (note she was VEEEERY different to later sisters, and was essentially just the previous Tamataka 31 "type" but lengthened and given a new funnel, and also speaking of which, the funnel on the No.71 is ever so slightly further aft than her later sisters for...some reason)

in around 1979 she was rebuilt to better fit in the with the next wave of ships being built (also based on her design) and as a result was given a "fin" at the rear of the funnel, and had her bow covered

in 1983 she became the FIRST generation Tamataka Maru No.8 and was (accordingly) repainted to match the Shodoshima Fleet

later in 1989 she was sold to a Japanese Shipbroker and (after a brief layup) was sold to the Chinese, where it was rebuilt in 1990 as "Lu Jiao Du No.6" and put in service at Qingdao

in 2007 she was sold to the Philippines and Renamed "Reina Emperatriz" for the Company "Montenegro Shipping Lines" (and of course given a minor refit)

potentially due to her condition she was rebuilt in 2011 with the superstructures and interiors being gutted and rebuilt (alongside a lot of hull plating based on photos posted to flicker at that time)

this SHOULD be accurate to her current state as of 2022 (at least I have not noticed any other changes) but with other Montenegro Ships being Refitted as of late she could be due for upgrade in the near future
