Østerhus Class Battleship

The Østerhus Class was a class of six fast battleships ordered by the Royal Mestran Navy in 1940. They were initially intended to intercept fast capital ships, such as the newer Secrazchaki BBs and Talmieran pocket battleships, while also being able to serve in the traditional battleline, to act as a possible "Fast Wing". Beginning in November 1943, four ships, Østerhus, Viken, Skoria, and Åndalstad, where completed; two more, Drøbak and Tårnlund, were laid down but construction was paused in 1942 and canceled in 1945. Drøbak would be sunk in 1959 as a reef ship and Tårnlund was scrapped in 1950.
Åndalstad would be sunk in 1948 during the Battle of the Nørreholm Islands, sinking due to Secrazchaki gunfire and aircraft attacks.

The 3 remaining ships would be the last Mestran battleships to be commissioned, as all older battleships were decommissioned by 1950 and struck from the NVR by 1958. From the mid-1940s to the early mid-2000s, the Østerhus battleships would fight in 3 wars, along with other small conflicts. In the Western Theater of World War II, they served as fast escorts for the Leydford Castle class aircraft carriers of the Fast Carrier Task Force, surface combatants during naval action, and shelling Secrazchaki coastal positions. During the Mestran-Virlannia War of 1950, the Østerhus' would shell Virlannian positions on the coast of the Thernern Sea, aswell as a partaking in a small naval engagement. Following the end of the war in early 1951, the Østerhus' would be decommissioned in 1955. Viken would be recommissioned in 1967, and would see action in the short lived Merchant war between Mestra and Helstorig, shelling Helstorig Army positions. All 3 ships would be reactived in 1989 and modernized in 1990, with new sensors and armament fitted, due to increased tensions with Virlannia. Østerhus and Skoria would see action in the 2007 Operation Snowstorm, firing 16" shells and LAM's on Northern Confederacy targets on the East coast.

Following the end of Operation Snowstorm, the Østerhus' would be decommissioned for the final time on June 30th, due to cost and being outdated. The last 2 ships would be struck from the NVR in 2007 (Viken was struck in 2000 due to costs) and released for donation to non-profit organizations. With Østerhus, Viken, and Skoria being transferred as museum ships as part of non-profit maritime museums across the coast of Mestra.

Leydford Castle Class Aircraft Carrier

The Leydford Castle class aircraft carrier would be Mestra's most important ship in the 2nd Global Conflict. Coming into service at the most important battle in the Naval War, The 2nd Battle for Skoria Bay. Leydford Castle and Akershus Castle would be in service to take part in the battle. There airgroups would help turn the tide and win the battle for Mestra. Her airgroup would consist of CF6-3 fighters (36), CSB5-4 scout/dive bombers (36), and CTB4-5 torpedo bomber (18). Early in August 1943 AG 34, which comprised of 4 Leydford Castle class ships, would come under heavy air attack by a combined force of carrier aircraft and land based aircraft. Leydford and the others wouldn't take any damage, apart from a few bullet holes. Mestran Admirals considered this attack to be a complete failure, With many enemy aircraft being shot down. The next attack however, would be completely different. Early on August 19th, 1943 the sound of Leydford Castle exploding and being ripped in halve. An enemy aircraft had some how, any how, gotten past radar and AA guns, dropping a 1,000 lb bomb into the middle of the hanger bay, igniting the armed and fuelled aircraft below. Leydford Castle would be the first carrier of the class to be lost.

Now that the intro is over, if the Second World War Aircraft Carrier Challenge was today's challenge, I'd 100% submit this.
After about a year of work the 1943 version is done. I plan to do her refits and modernisation's in the future, stay tuned, I'm off to my cottage.

Leydford Castle class aircraft carrier MNS Audunborg Castle

This is the MNS Audunborg Castle after her "Anti-Aircraft Gun Enhancement Refit". The AAGER was introduced after the lost of MNS Leydford Castle due to enemy aircraft. Many of the ships would receive more 20 and 40mm AA guns.
Audunborg in particular received 7x quad 40mm mounts and 10x single 20mm mounts. Along with the AA gun improvements she would also get another Mk. 39 surface search radar and an enhanced Mk. 11 air search radar.

MNS Båhus Castle

In January of 1945, the Leydford's would get another AAGER. Båhus Castle would receive an AA Gun deck on the stern, various sensor and radar enhancements, and more 40 and 20mm AA guns.
In addition to the AAGER, Båhus and a few other carriers would get the new CF7-2 fighter-bomber, replacing the CF6-4.

Sommerfeldt Class Destroyer

Mestra's second war-time destroyer class, the Sommerfeldt DDs would be very effective at sinking ships, but also providing escort to Mestra's convoys and Task Forces. Many ships of the class would do very well during there wartime service, with only 6 ships being lost. MNS Eskildsen would survive the war with 11 battlestars.

The Sommerfeldt class would be an improvement of over all survivability, armament, and speed over the Kvamme class destroyers. The design would be a 2,750 ton, 4x 5"/51 DP guns, 2x quad torpedo mounts, and a speed of 38 knts, numbering around 30 ships. In 1944, 35 ships would be ordered to supplement the Kvammes in service, which were taking heavy losses. 3 ships of the class would be sold to Khraelyia in 46'. During the war 7 ships would be sunk, mostly due to enemy fire, although Sommerfeldt would be sunk from MNS Kópaverfi Castle exploding after taking 3x 2,000 lb bombs, with all hands on both ships being lost. In the end, the Sommerfeld's would be a durable, quick, well armed, and large destroyer class.
