Yeah the Bass Strait certainly is very rough at times. The trip over to Tassie was rough as the vessel corckscrewed in the waves. No damage but I don't think anyone held their dinner down that night! The return trip was perfectly smooth in contrast.

A couple months after I went a big wave hit one of the ferries and smashed windows and portholes, flooded cabins and dislodged vehicles with the force of the impact. Felt kinda lucky that I only had seasickness to deal with!

It can be extremely unpleasant. I'm quite lucky, I rarely get seasick but I've realized that all the cross channel ferries smell vaguely of vomit, rain or shine.

Hehe. I'm actually usually quite good on boats as I nearly never get seasick unless its especially rough. Airsickness is a whole other story. Every time I've landed in Singapore when travelling with family I've been sick due to the turbulence. Despite getting airsick easy I've done some flight training and got my gliders license as I love flying, even if my body doesn't xD

Try the Cook Straight sometime... beyond the fjord of Picton, it gets really rough...

I was on the Arahura once and she was shuddering as she ploughed through the bigger waves - all 13,000 tons of her!

I once did a delivery from Hellevoetsluis to Cannes and went through the Bay of Biscay and Golfe du Lion. It wasn't as bad as its reputation, thanks to an off day! Also on the topic of lumpy voyages... you have to watch the documentary Around Cape Horn by Irving Johnson. Shot in 1929, it follows his voyage from the North Sea to Valparaiso, its compulsive viewing and the Old sea dog, Johnson, narrating in the 80's is a unique character. The DVD is only available at Mystic Seaport but you can find it on you tube.

I'm rather surprised she didn't change much on the exterior over some 30 years. You usually notice a lot of rebuilding in ferries as they get older, markets change and routes and owners change.

Yes, but I'm glad she didn't get jumboized like some other ferries. I think BF decided to buy new rather than refit her. Ships like MV's Bretagne, Val de Loire and Normandie came into service in the late 80's early nineties... The two former will appear in due course.
Whats wrong with Morocco, apart from the terrible livery???

This one is not really Moroccan, as the ship is registered in Cyprus, so she is Cyprian in fact. She serves a connection between Morocco and Spain, and maybe has some Moroccan crew.
