A few weeks ago I said my days of drawing were behind me forever... well what a surprise, here I am again tweaking and reworking an old classic. I'm working on updating the Atlanta class cruisers to the current standard of quality - the originals were drawn in 2012 and are sorely lacking.

Admittedly I've been out of this game for quite some time and need some help finding sources. The first up is CL-51 at the time of its sinking in November, 1942.

This is a work in progress... I've ordered the usual set of Floating Drydock plans but figured I'd go ahead and have a whack at getting some of the more obvious things updated before I really sink my teeth into it. The finished version will of course be presented in the correct camouflage scheme if possible.

Great, thanks. Do you have any close up photos of CL-51 and CL-52 before the eventual loss? I'm trying to figure out what equipment was on CL-51's mainmast. I've been talking to the guys at the Ship Model Forum (one of the best resources for ships around) and all they were able to tell me was that no SG radar was installed on CL-51's mainmast. I assume it's the usual set of blinker/truck lights and probably antenna trunks for the wire antennas stretched between the yards. But as usual I have no concrete data to work off.

I've ordered Floating Drydock plans for CL-51 as in 11/42 so will use those to get the dimensions right (these ships were traced from Friedmans' Cruisers) and then will incorporate the small changes I usually make after consulting as many period photos as possible. Any assistance is as always appreciated. I'll be using the faired lines plans to get the hull shading correct as per acelanceloet's recommendations.

Good call on the life raft positions... they didn't seem to "fit" well on the aft turrets based on the location of the small periscope positions on either side of the mounts anyway.

I'm very excited to see this drawing progress. The Atlantas might be my favorite combatants of the entire war.

Can't wait to see these done in the current standards!
